All Change at Boston
It’s finally here! The start to the new NBA LL season 2008-09. With Boston being the previous winners last year triumphing over the L.A Lakers in the Championships last season. The question that is on everybopdys mind is whether they can make it a repeat?
Well even the best it appears have to develop and improve with the immediate arrival of new GM Cleasby at the helm.
“I am pleased to be here and I can’t wait to do everything I can do bring Boston yet another title. We have one of the best rosters in the league and I am confident we have what it takes to get back to the finals”. Cleasby said.
It’s hard to argue with Cleasby, Boston’s boasts three all-stars in Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett as well as the future franchise player Rajon Rondo. All four of these stars would probably start on any roster in the league. Add to that core vets in House, Alan and Cassel and you have a core that has the talent and experience to win.
But even with a roster as talented and deep as the Celtics Cleasby is still not fully happy:
“We have a nice roster but not the best. We lack scoring off the bench and a true secondary option in the paint besides KG”.
This then triggered Cleasby to pull his first trade as GM. A deal which send this year’s first round pick, Brian Scalabrine and the prospect of JR Giddens for Nate Robinson and David Lee.
The deal gives New York signals the rebuilding process acquiring a talented young guy in Giddens who can gain experience this year and a 1st round pick in a pretty deep draft (since it has some Charlotte Bobcats players in). But for Boston the deal brought the depth Cleasby was looking for:
“Lee and Nate bring scoring punch off the bench. Whilst their defence is not great I think they can provide a scoring outlet that our secondary team lacked”.
With the team in place now can this Boston team really win it all? Or do they lack something to match up against the very best the NBA LL has to offer?
Cleasby is certainly keen to find out this season!
